Ms. Indrani Sugathadasa

Mrs. Sugathadasa joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1977. Her career of over 35 years in the public sector includes numerous positions as Asst Secretary, Plan Implementation; Director, National Youth Services Council; Director, Women’s Bureau; Secretary, Ministry of Child Development & Women’s Empowerment; and Secretary, Ministry of Plantation Industries. After retirement, she served as the Chairpersons in Securities and Exchange Commission and Insurance Commission of Sri Lanka. Gaining private sector experience, she served as a non-Executive Independent Director of the National Development Bank PLC and Hayleys Aventura and Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd. She currently serves as a Council member of the University of Colombo. She is also a Trustee of the AYATI Trust, and Musaeus College. Mrs. Sugathadasa has represented Sri Lanka in several Delegations to foreign States and has participated in many International Forums including ESCAP Expert Group Meeting on Beijing 4th World Women’s Conference in Bangkok. In 2017, she was also invited as a Featured Speaker by the World Bank in Washington DC, as a Panelist on Increasing Women's Financial Protection. The Kitakyushu Forum on Asian Women (KFAW) in Japan appointed Mrs. Sugathadasa as a Foreign Correspondent to their Magazine “Asian Breeze” for 3 consecutive years in early 1990s. Her contribution to the public service and leadership in numerous sectors in the country has been recognized through a number of accolades, including the Australian Alumni Excellence Award in 2013 and the Inspirational Women Award in 2014/2015 by the Women in Management Organization. In the Insurance sector, she was admitted to the 'Hall of Fame' in 2017 by Sri Lanka Insurance Institute. Mrs. Sugathadasa is a product of Musaeus College, entered the University of Colombo and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. She is a Masters (MBA/MPA) from Monash University, Australia. She was awarded the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship (Fulbright) by the Government of the United States in 1990 and was attached to the City University of New York during the Fellowship period. Mrs. Sugathadasa has also received professional training in Urban Planning at Hunter College, City University of New York; Women’s Employment & Job Training at US Department of Labour, New York; Personnel Management at University of Connecticut, USA; and Public Service Management at Swedish Institute of Management, Sweden.
